7 French Chansons by Janequin and Passereau arranged by Frederick Delius. Recorder Ensemble. For 4 Recorders. Collection. Published by Robert Lienau Edition. PE.RL40280. This collection, based on the original score published in Venice in 1538, gives us insight into the 'chanson' genre which was at its peak at the beginning of the 16th century. In keeping with the custom of that time to perform those pieces originally intended for singing on instruments, too, they were transcribed for the recorder. The registers allow the usual quartet instrumentation S-A-T-B, but alternate options are also possible.
