" Justus Weinreich, now known only to a few enthusiasts and scholars, left a small output of arch-romantic chamber music, partly with a didactic flair. These include suites for solo viola, a Serenade in D for violin and viola, 2 string quartets, and this piece that was originally one of four short pieces composed for 4 violins, and it has been arranged for 4 violas. Justus Otto Weinreich was born in Kassel on May 24, 1858. He probably received his first lessons from his father Johann Georg Weinreich, an oboist serving in the Elector's personal bodyguard regiment.
