It has a waltz-type sound. It's written in d minor and parallel D Major. The RH uses several different positions. The LH stays in a d minor 5-finger position. Purpose. Teaches RH phrasing and “lifting”, contrasting dynamics mp to mf, and is an exercise in shading. Suggestions for Instruction. I point out LH first to show how it stays in one place. That makes the student think the piece is easier. Use RH alone for shaping a phrase and “breathing”. Other Information.
