Written for and dedicated to my niece Jessica on the occasion of her graduation from 5th grade, A New Hope was used as the background music for a slideshow featuring hundreds of photos of all the 5th graders from the Class of 2010 at New Hope Elementary School. Hillsborough, NC. The piece begins rather solemnly with a hint of nostalgia reflecting on the times the students shared together. The ever-uplifting 'Jessica's Theme' is first introduced in the 2nd piano part at m. 16. The theme goes through several transformations until the 'New Hope Theme' is introduced in m. 71. The two primary themes converge in m. 81 between the pianos, flute and strings. 'Jessica's Theme' is presented once more in a new meter. 12. before returning to the serenity of the opening bars.
