Super Frank is a chart written for Ashley Alexander for his first album, Ashley Alexander and His Alumni Band. At Ashleys request, the work was written as a tribute to the recently deceased Frank Rosolino, hence the title. I developed the melody by analyzing a lot of Rosolinos licks and incorporating them into a virtuosic 32 bar head for Ashley. Though it is a straight ahead bebop tune, Ashley commented that it posed one of his biggest challenges for the album. For the record, he nailed it. This is a classic feature for a talented bebop trombonist and energetic big band. Up swing. 5 saxes - no doubles. 4 tpts with optl. 5th. 5 trombones, 1 solo plus 4. D. Trombone feature.
