Franz Liszt (Liszt Ferenc) prominently deployed two Hungarian devices in his orchestral version of the Sturmmarsch (March to the Assault, or Battle March): the tonality of Hungarian minor, and the orchestral introduction of the cimbalom, a folk instrument. A masterful harmonist, Liszt deftly shifts tonal centers in an unsettling manner to complement the tempo, Allegro impetuoso.
